Hackers & Designers, A patchwork poster (detail), printed cleaning wipes and other recycled textiles, e-ink screens, 85 x 120 cm, 2025

Hackers & Designers, a collective from Amsterdam, designs alternative tools for making information public. The handmade patchwork poster they have created is a counter-design to the impersonal and sleek aesthetics of technical surfaces that feign neutrality. The textile poster is “seamfulness”, because the seams are visible, and it is made from recycled materials sourced from the various members of the H&D collective.

The QR code leads to a pop-up website via local Wi-Fi networks. There, messages can be entered, which then appear on e-ink screens of various sizes. In this way, the public can express their opinion on “seamfulness” design!
