The Amalgamable Archive showcases how combining symbols creates powerful, layered meanings. Though this technique is less common today due to minimalism, it remains impactful to convey complex messages that resonate with the audience.

This is exemplified by Victoria Hoogstoël’s work, which activates this archive. By drawing the symbols in the archive in her own style, adding new ones and then screen printing them onto a set of wooden blocks, she has created a toolkit that allows the symbols to be exchanged endlessly.
